Hopefulness is not a given. It’s something that must be nurtured and cultivated, especially in terms of how we live out our life plan and build our legacy. A committment to hopefulness makes all the difference between giving up or pressing on when difficult circumstances become a threat to successfully living out our life plan.
Realizing the potential for any plan to get derailed allows us to put measures in place which give us staying power, strength for the long haul and perspective for the difficult times. These measures also create ways for us to keep fear and depression at bay and focus our attention on moving forward instead of getting stuck in the present or the past.
Put simply, hopefulness is the anticipation of a greater tomorrow.Hopefulness effectively moves us through the muck of now and into the much of tomorrow. Click To Tweet
One of the best ways to ensure our legacy stays ever in front of us is to implement hopefulness checkpoints. These checkpoints are similar to those put in place during a marathon or a 5K event. During these events, it’s anticipated that runners will have particular needs along the way, such as thirst and medical attention. Before the race ever begins, checkpoints are established to provide these anticipated needs so the runners have a much better chance of finishing successfully and with hopefulness maintained.
Our life plan is much like a marathon. Yes, we have a goal, a final destination, but to keep our eyes only on the goal may not be the best course of action. Learning to anticipate our needs along the way is crucial to our success. Implementing checkpoints during key times along our life plan aids us in transitioning through them and toward our desired legacy.
As we look forward in our life plan, there are some key questions which will help us anticipate and implement our checkpoints.
What future situations may require greater care while navigating our life plan?
What resources do we need to live out our life plan successfully?
How will we ensure these resources are available when needed?
Who can we entrust with the details of our plan?
Who can we rely on to encourage and support us through the hard times?
What emotional, physical and spiritual needs might be necessary to plan for?
What hindrances can we anticipate and how can we navigate through them?
Of course we can never fully anticipate all that life will drop at the doorstep of our heart. Sometimes its hard and gruelling and layered with countless trials. But implementing hopefulness checkpoints helps us alleviate the destructive tendency of giving up on the very best of how we want to live our life so we can focus on our future.
“Hopefully and devoutly focus on your greater possibilities.” Bryant McGill~
Anticipation is a gift. When combined with hopefulness, it’s an opportunity to look ahead with confident expectation of good. It’s fuel for how we choose to live. And it releases us from the past so we can fully appreciate where we are and where we are going.
I believe without a shadow of a doubt that we have all been created for a legacy, and we have choices to make in this life of how we will journey through. We can choose doubt or believe that we have a purpose. We can choose to wallow in the mistakes we’ve made or walk hand in hand with our Maker toward a future put in place before our first heartbeat.
Because choosing a legacy means choosing life~
