Summer isn’t just about refreshing our soul; it’s also about refreshing and energizing our mind. Disconnecting from our routines and tasks to find small stretches of refreshment in our summer will reap huge benefits when fall rolls around and we find ourselves knee-deep in the busyness of life.
I don’t know about you but my priorities tend to get out of whack the busier I get. When this happens, it’s like a domino effect. I get weary, cranky and I complain about the smallest things. I snap at the people closest to me and focus on what’s wrong in my life instead of all that is good and right. And truth…well, when my busyness has gotten the best of me, truth gets distorted and hope often evades even my saner moments.
Our brains need to disconnect into nothingness. Where thoughts evaporate into trickles of peace. Where anxiety and brain clutter trickle into joy and reflection.
And where hope takes flight again.
For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been on a hunt for ways to refresh my mind. Although I’ve not explored all of these opportunities, perhaps even one will be just what you need to start down the path of refreshing your mind.
- deep breathing with an app like CALM
- stretch or practice yoga
- lie in the grass and watch clouds
- enjoy sounds of nature
- journal the good things
- take a nap
- listen to calming music

Reset our perspectives
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
Refocus our affections
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
Renew our strength
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:30
Restore our attitudes
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
Realign with the truth
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
Redirect our priorities
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2
Recall our blessings
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:2Sharing our #blogs on #FreshMarketFriday #linkup! #SummerRefresh Series and #Giveaway! Click To Tweet
Happy Birthday Fresh Market Friday!
I’m so excited to be celebrating 1 year of the Fresh Market Friday Linkup, and I want to make sure you know how special you are to this amazing community of bloggers and to me. So, I’m giving away a copy of the Perfectly Loved Journal by Holly Gerth! To qualify, be sure to follow the instructions below, and I’ll announce the winner on Monday, July 17th.
Good luck, and thanks for making Fresh Market Friday such a sweet place to meet up and share a bit of our lives together!
In case you missed previous posts in the #SummerRefresh Series….
One more way to celebrate…just for you?
I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award!
Wondering what the Liebster award is? It’s a virtual award which is passed on from blogger to blogger as a show of support, and I appreciate the support from Lou&Lea! I would love to give you the chance to be nominated also.
♥ So here is how it will work: Instead of choosing a Featured Fresh Find each week, I’ll be celebrating by leaving the link-up open for the next 6 weeks!
♥ You’re invited to link-up your favorite blog posts HERE! I’ll choose 11 of my favorite blogs to pass on the award. In the coming weeks, I’ll also include a special blog post to fulfill the requirements of the award and I’ll announce the winners on August 4th, 2017.
