Color is something I absolutely cannot live without!
Every room in my home reflects a different mood and a different color. And as I find myself in the midst of working with a graphic designer and programmer to redesign my blog, colors are at front and center of the beginning creative process.
Color is a power which directly influences the soul. Wassily Kandinsky
“Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. ”~ Oscar Wilde
Colors convey certain feelings and affect the brain to create specific emotions and actions.
Did you know… according to Buffer, there are certain colors men hate, and certain colors women hate? And likewise, there are certain colors which are appealing to each.
Which leads all of us in the blogging community to ask ourselves a few key questions in an effort to make sure we are not only reaching our intended audience, but we are also keeping them long enough to create the right mood and atmosphere for them to soak in our messages.
Who is my blog meant to appeal to…men or women?
What do I want the colors of my blog to convey?
What do I want my readers to feel when they visit my site?
Do I want to move my readers to make a purchase of some kind?
Do I want my readers to feel prompted to subscribe or take some type of action?
Let’s explore color a little bit more, and if you want to know more about how color evokes feelings and emotions, be sure to visit here!
Want your readers to feel energized, strong and confident? Use red to evoke feelings of warmth and love and comfort. As you will see in the video below, if you have a food blog, you definitely want to utilize red because it stimulates the appetite. Have you ever wondered why clearance signs are red? Because red creates a sense of urgency and excitement. Check your own mood and behavior next time you see a clearance sign. It might surprise you.
Purple is the one color which cannot be found in nature. It is symbolic of wealth and royalty, and has a calming, peaceful and soothing effect on people. There is a reason so many beauty products are purple. Because women are the largest purchasers of these items. Have you bought any anti-aging products lately? Check out the color.
Did you know people experience more productivity in a blue room? Blue offers a sense of stability, reliability and people often feel calm, tranquil and trusting. If you want to create a safe place where people feel a sense of trust in purchasing your product, you definitely want to utilize blue. Here’s a test…how many businesses and banks come to mind which are known for their color of blue?
Pink is joyful and creative and feminine. As a result, it evokes feelings of kindness, compassion and has an element of delicate softness.
It’s no wonder we find green surrounding us in nature, because it is the one color which is the easiest on the eyes. Green evokes restful and calm emotions. Use green if you want your readers to feel less stressed while visiting your site. Researchers have even found that green has the ability to increase a reader’s comprehension.
Orange creates energy, and it is one of the more aggressive colors because it draws attention. When we watch the sunset, we feel a sense of warmth and well-being. Use orange if you want to prompt readers to a particular action such as subscribing or purchasing.
Yellow is such a happy, cheerful and warm color, but it can also be a color which creates tiredness for the eyes because of its brightness, so a little bit goes a long way. It grabs attention the fastest, so if you want to quickly direct readers to a specific item to purchase, this will do the trick.
And don’t forget the elegant, sophisticated black, which evokes feelings of power and a sense of confidence. If you have a fashion blog, black is sure to make your readers feel slimmer and fashionable.
Need to know a little bit more information…check out the video below.
Don’t think of color as a little thing. Think of it as one of the greatest we know, and rejoice in it, train yourself to see it everywhere, to know its perfect harmonies and splendid contrasts, its delicate gradations, its depth and power. A deal of our happiness comes through color, and much more can come if we will let it. ~HILDEGARDE HAWTHORNE

And let’s be sure to give our readers a perfect opportunity to come back for more!
