There’s something to be said for new beginnings and beginning again. I’ve had my share of both as I’m sure you have also.
Some of new beginnings may not be exactly what we want or feel that we needs, but even this can be fuel enough to put things in motion. Likewise, when beginning again and again doesn’t work, sometimes it’s time to close the door and embrace a fresh, new beginning.
Beginnings can be a bit scary, rejuvenating and even bittersweet.
Both hold the anticipation of something better – something more. Each bubble with gentle grace, filled with moments of tender blossoming and sweet redemption. Leaving behind all we’ve come to sink comfortably within and braving our way toward a hope-filled tomorrow isn’t easy. Loosening our grip on what we think we must have to make way for what we know we need isn’t comfortable.
Still, our spirits were created to thirst and yearn for more. But often more escapes our ability to define. Its elusive calling stretches our heartstrings until we can no longer remain in yesterday. Its promise of a deeper and greater existence lifts our soul to the higher places.
We long for more because we were formed for more.
Our gaze widens to the possibilities of life beyond the tangible. Where giving up or giving in becomes the harder choice, and the longing for a ground-breaking kind of more conquers one more despairing day.

This is the time when so many of us connect with the urgency of clearing the clutter of life to create enough white space to begin again. We glimpse the hope of growth and we dare to entertain the thought that maybe there is more over the horizon, even if we’ve failed before. Because tomorrow is a new day – where our souls awaken to a clean slate. Not just in the little things, but in the once insurmountable mountains.
This place where “what if” forms and flows steady with anticipation. Where a single choice to not quit becomes the last piece in the puzzle of success. Where the gut-wrenching choice to begin one… more… time becomes the final awakening to a legacy instead of a loss. Where life is mended and restored.
A marriage desperate for fresh and new and whole breaks way to a cleansing moment of restoration.
A financial choke-hold surrenders to a declaration of plenty and a pledge that enough really can be more.
A diagnosis pinned beneath the inevitable ruptures free and clean with unnumbered tomorrows.
A suffocating loss rises toward a future undefined by void but sealed with a promise of hope.
Beginnings hold the potential to become the final awakening to a legacy instead of a loss.
We don’t need to cower to the fear of not knowing because not knowing is the fuel that drives our faith in new beginnings. We don’t need to retreat to the uncertainty of tomorrow because uncertainty is the seed of hope in choosing to begin again.
God rebuilds and restores when we choose to yield in the midst of uncertainty and not knowing. Click To TweetBecause His heart for us and toward us lives beyond both.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
We’re called to new beginnings because each new beginning awakens us to see more clearly. We’re called to begin again because each beginning again challenges us to give more of ourselves, for the sake of ourselves and for others.
And in this awakening and challenging, we realize that more reaches beyond what we could ever imagine and takes us to places we never thought possible.
All because we made the one single choice to not give up or to not give in. And that single choice ushered in more courage, more expectancy and more life than we ever dreamed.
