Let’s just get this out on the table now…It’s OK to fail!
Very few FIRST attempts make it into the “successful” category. No matter what anyone tells us, and no matter what our emotions try to make us believe…
Failing does not equal Failure!
“Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
Instead, the challenge is to use failing as a clarifier to help us see the road to our goal more clearly. We can allow it to direct our steps with intention. To eliminate the wrong options and bring the correct options into greater focus.
Failing is a producer of courage which is almost always born out of adversity. Most goals require courage to battle fear and doubt and criticism. So why not give yourself permission to grow courage through each failing.
Failing is an avenue to learning. We learn about people and processes and paths. We experience the value of hard work and sweat and tears. And just when we think we have it all figured out, we learn that we don’t. But we are one step closer in the failing.
Failing is a tool to sharpen our skills. Every goal requires practice and repetition. And even in the mundane, we improve. Our thoughts are defined. Our efforts are concentrated. And the failing chisels away the excess to reveal the real essence of our achieving.
Failing is a mirror to discover who we really are. Every person we admire or aspire to live our life like woke up morning after morning and had to look in the mirror after failing. And just like us, they had to make a conscious choice to try again. It’s one of the most profound ways to truly build and refine our character.
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” Maya Angelou
So perhaps the best way to deal with failing…..
EXPECT the fail!
EMBRACE the fail!
EMPOWER yourself through the fail!
And Stay Motivated!
