His voice was cracking with excitement, and I knew the outcome before his words spilled out of the phone. After all these years of daring to dream and working tenaciously, his goal of becoming a professor was finally realized. His interview was daunting, and his young age put him at an immediate disadvantage. But I knew what he did not have time to process…his determination and hard work had prepared him for this very day.
I watched him through the years, taking on more than most would ever choose and keeping his eye on the prize, even when the schedule and responsibilities were insane. I watched the character building and molding and refining.
And I knew this would be the day of claiming.
Isn’t that what we all want, a day of claiming when what often seems impossible becomes possible? When our sweat and tears give birth to the reality of accomplishment. When we press on through sheer determination because the glimpse of a goal was planted in our heart and grew through our persistence.
What is it your heart desires? Is it a longing you’ve been silencing because the journey is harder than you imagined, or the time involved weighs against your ability to move forward.
At some point, no matter the goal, we all have to decide what place determination will hold, whether we will relegate it to a “once-in-a-while friend, or whether we will stay connected to the energy and motivation it delivers. We must decide if we are willing to look impossible in the face and let determination stare it down.
Putting impossible in its place is continual act of the will. ←(tweet this)
Impossible doesn’t surrender easily. But if we are determined to wake up every day with the intention of taking one more step toward our goal in spite of the obstacles we encounter, we will stay motivated to continue our journey. We don’t have to have all the answers, we just have to be determined to try.
“Determination is the wake-up call to the human will”~ Anthony Robbins
Determination has the power to change us. ←(tweet this)
We are strengthened as determination takes the front line in the battle for our goal. We gain wisdom along the way, and our eyes are opened as we begin to believe in the possible. As we move toward our goal, setbacks lose power over us, and we learn to rise above those obstacles threatening to sabatage.
Determination has the power to impact beyond ourselves. ←(tweet this)
Our goals are not all about us. If we get to the end of the road and have accomplished our goal but have made no impact on other’s lives, then we have missed out. Our determination has the direct effect of impacting someone else’s life. Through our example, our steadfastness and our ability to fight against impossible, we make a way for hope.
“When faced with a mountain, I will not quit! I will keep striving until I climb over, find a pass through, tunnel underneath or simply stay and turn the mountain into a gold mine, with God’s help.”~ Robert Half
We make a way for other’s to believe IN POSSIBLE instead of surrendering to impossible. We make a way for more mountains and more tunnels than just our own. We make a way for others to believe and dream and hope.
That is what our day of claiming is all about!
