It’s family celebration weekend, and the logistics of bringing each member together in one place is not as easy as it was when we were all under one roof. The plans have been set for a couple weeks, and only a few last minute details have yet to be completed.
Soon we will all be together, and the thought of this always leaves my heart ready to leap for joy in anticipation.
Celebrations are a source of great comfort and happiness for me. They represent all that is good in life. Gatherings of family and friends converging to share one memorable moment in life, whether to mark a milestone or holiday are sweet gifts in this life we have been given.
Laughter, smiles and sheepish giggles ring over the clanging of silverware and passing of platters. Great care has gone into preparing a meal which won’t last near as long as it took to put together, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is great satisfaction in watching the plates emptied. Life is in motion, just as it should be, and it is oh so sweet!
Siblings, each on their own path of life are once again reunited, and a glimpse of what was reappears. The bond is strong, the joy is deep, and the competitions are endless. Each gathering must always be marked among the brothers by “who is taller now,” as youngest realizes he is about to catch the oldest. The youngest beams with sweet satisfaction, realizing he is soon to reach a long awaited milestone. The oldest smiles, taking pleasure in the moment, knowing it hasn’t happened yet.
Little sister shares special and unique moments with each brother. She has a place no one else can fill, and it will always be this way. She is never too old to tickle and always in need of a brotherly hug. Life is in motion, just as it should be, and it is oh so sweet!
Family is everything to me, and pouring my life into this beautiful gift is my life in motion.
It represents the culmination of thousands upon thousands of moments, each rooted in love, fertilized with compassion and tended to with diligence. It is a current which carries me, shapes me and defines me, although wildly unpredictable, rarely calm and perfectly imperfect.
Yet, at the end of the day, it is this breathtaking current of family moments and memories which leave me overflowing with gratitude.
This ThanksLiving is life in motion, and it is oh so sweet!
