Jarred by the buzz of the alarm clock, I am stirred and don’t want to move. Another day, and nothing has changed, when I need everything to change. I feel strong arms wrap around me and a whisper in my ear, “My favorite place to be, right here.”
Maybe I don’t need everything to change.
Just planting my feet on the cool wood floor takes more effort today. I listen for movement upstairs. There are not as many pitter patters any more. Life is forever different here.
One thing never changes-the dogs dance on the floor, excited to see me rise from my slumber. Life is always the same for them. They are never changed by what is going on around them. Regardless of what each day leaves behind or what the next will bring, they are here, now and ready to show overwhelming affection.
I pass by, rubbing both furry heads and manage a smile. Here is all I have right now. The struggles of yesterday do not have to rule this moment. The uncertainty of tomorrow need not steal what is waiting for me here.
A heavy sigh, as I open the bag of coffee and breathe deeply…..the earthy aroma is soothing. Thank you God for coffee….thank you for this moment, really. Here is the place where God wants me, even if it is not what I desire.
Here is the only way to get there, after everything is sifted and sorted, where tears cleanse and laughter heals.
Here is the place God is working all things out and I must remain and wait. I need to stop and let Him pour into my heart, here, where I am changed.
Once again, I surrender…..here.
