How is your confidence today? Do you find yourself moving closer and closer to your goal, to your dream? Is motivation running steady, or is it taking a nose dive because your confidence level is struggling to find identity?
Confidence is often difficult to hang on to. One day we feel like the whole world is ours to conquer, and then we trip, fall in a hole we never saw coming, and just like that, our confidence shies away like a small child facing the first day of school.
And the little voice in our head echoes, “What on earth were you thinking? You can’t do this!”
Oh, how many times I have wrestled with that voice! How about you?
Learning to recognize the voice is half the battle. If we learn to recognize, we can identify the messages for what they are…lies.
Lies that question and convince us we are too old or too young for such a dream
Lies that belittle us into believing we don’t have what it takes or the road ahead is too hard.
Lies that attack our self-worth and convince us we’re not deserving or nobody will really notice if we quit.
Lies that plant doubt in our identity, our abilities and our choices.
This voice is NOT our friend. Its sole purpose is to sabotage our dreams and goals by shattering our confidence. Once our confidence shatters, the deed is done, and we remain in the same place we were a year ago, a month ago, a week ago. Defeated, wounded and done trying.
How often we yield to the screaming voices that make their presence known as soon as we find our drive to change and achieve and succeed.
The truth is, we have the ability to silence this voice and replace it with a voice of encouragement and truth. A quote rings loud in my head as I write this, “Nobody can take our confidence without our permission. “
The best way to keep our confidence in tact is to be prepared for action as soon as we hear the voice. And the best way to be prepared for action is to have truth always before us. Truth posted on our mirror, our refrigerator, in our office, or on our electronic devices.
Wherever we need the truth to be, is where it should be…so eventually, where it will reside is in our hearts. And the gap that spans 18” between our head and our heart will grow shorter as we plant truth.
The voice will lose all power over us, and we will move in strength and confidence. Our motivation will remain steady to carry us toward achieving our dreams and goals…
Because the voice of truth is the only voice we hear.
“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale
