I’ve known since a very young age that I don’t like clutter, and I don’t need a lot of things to make me happy. If you step into my life, you’ll find I’m not a huge collector of anything, and even the teapots my mother passed down to me are nestled in a storage container instead of on display.
Clutter, whether in small spaces or large doesn’t make me feel comfortable or cozy. And although I’m far from a minimalist, I definitely thrive in open, calm spaces.
As a child, I remember visiting my grandparent’s home where every inch of the kitchen table was occupied with knickknacks, the cupboards overflowed with a mishmash of plates and cups, and each surface seemed to have more than enough items vying for a place of significance.
I’m sure much of the clutter I remember had sentimental value to my grandparents, but the vast collection also meant meals were served on TV trays instead of gathering the family around the table.
That memory among others contributed to my cautious spirit over what I attach to my heart.
I want to be able to let go and move forward. To make space for change. To live light and gather experiences over possessions…conversations over commitments…memories over memorabilia.
Still, I understand that letting go isn’t easy. And like everyone, I have those things I hold onto much too tightly. Things that lure me toward comfort, significance and security. Yet, I know to let go is to find the balance I’m craving in living out my purpose and the joy that resides alongside true security and freedom.
The simple life is not about living with less; it's about realizing that what we have is more than enough for today and tomorrow. Share on X
What if the key to a simple life is found in a ‘more than enough’ mindset?
The kind of mindset that allows us to detach from our things because we recognize this is not where we find our security, our acceptance or our significance. Where our possessions are in proper perspective so they no longer own us. And our pulse quickens as we experience an authentic life and purpose apart from any tangible thing. Because more than enough is truly more freedom…
freedom from purchasing things just to impress or to fit in
freedom to objectively decide how many of one item we really need while eliminating excess
freedom to live contented with less because there is more than enough for today and tomorrow
freedom to share what we have because we don’t have to fear for our future
freedom to look at everything we have as a gift and as an opportunity to be grateful
freedom to trust in God’s daily grace to provide exactly what we need and when we need it
freedom to live out of our purpose instead of living in the bondage of our possessions
Living with a more than enough mindset allows us to live light and gather experiences over possessions...conversations over commitments...memories over memorabilia Share on X
What if a ‘more than enough’ mindset could thrive in the daily discipline of habits?
Habits that thoughtfully define the boundaries of our calendars, the space of our possessions, the weight of our priorities and corners of our commitments. Habits that grow joy through the intention of letting go and living light. So at the end of each day, we find ourselves dwelling in the space of carefree trust and a soul-deep security, not of our own making.
Isn’t that how we find the balance that silences our fears and calms our anxiety to finally let go?
So we can open our hands to more. We can open our minds to what’s most important and our hearts to what’s abundantly possible.
Through the intention of more than enough, we open our souls to abundance, and we embrace the life we were always meant to live.
5 Habits that Inspire a More Than Enough Mindset
A ‘more than enough’ mindset’ can be the agent to inspire us to adopt the kind of healthy habits which lead to freedom, joy, and balance. And the beauty of these 5 habits is their ability to flow into all areas of our life. From the small cluttered spaces of our home to the jam-packed corners of our schedules and commitments.
We can learn to eliminate the excess, categorize the priorities, organize their flow in our life, give them their proper place and significance without allowing them to rule us and extend our hands generously to those we come into contact with in our daily life.
The simple life process brings order to chaos and gives us space to breathe and live lighter, so we can experience this life we’ve been given with a more profound sense of security and faith that only comes…
from letting go.
