Summer is the perfect time for fresh starts. Everything around us is spilling over in full life, and it’s the time my heart is most receptive to growth. I’m not striving to keep up. I’m not hustling to get to the finish line.
My reset takes place during the slow, quiet exhale of summer. I feel it in the warm hugs of sunshine and in the cool rumbles of afternoon thunderstorms. It’s a soothing, open awareness of all that’s alive and new around me and in me.
I think of summer as my seeding season. The time that aligns with my soul’s most natural active growth.
I’m sure it stems from motherhood and intentionally protecting the summer for both myself and my kiddos to completely decompress. To hang loose and do whatever felt right at the time, We woke when the sun was higher on the horizon , we slept our first wink long after the moon filled the night sky, we ate when we were hungry, read, played, swam, and just fed fully on life until our souls felt the rhythm strong again.
Each day of summer owned its own space.
This was the seeding our souls so desperately needed to bring fresh growth and nourishment to thoroughly reset for the demands of a new school year.
Know your seeding season...the time that aligns with your soul's most natural active growth. #soul-feeding Share on XSummer is also my spiritual seeding season. I don’t know why. It just is.
It’s when I’m naturally more intentional about not only looking for God but also listening for Him. I sense God more, so my heart is more aligned. More Reflective. More Pliable. More Yielding.
My spirit is more receptive to study, so I use the summer to soak up scripture and find fresh perspectives that somehow lay brittle and dormant beneath the weight of the year’s challenges. In the freeing and healing, my soul is calmed. Refreshed. Hopeful. Energized.
So I lay open the soil and gather scripture to plant. Each summer I choose a mini photo album, small enough to fit within my purse and I begin filling it with index card scriptures. These are the seeds I continue to plant throughout the year. Because I know the coming seasons will bring less growth and sometimes keeping the soil fertile is just plain hard.
This planting has become such a significant and sustaining part of my summer reset.
It’s not about the gathering, it’s about the planting. It’s about aligning our hearts with the heart of our Maker and inviting Him to plow and plant and water…us. It’s about yielding and laying bare. Something I rarely find easy.
It’s about inviting and expecting hope.
It’s about cultivating…
a legacy of hope.
