This week, I realized I am once again late to the party – the Friendsgiving party.
It seems this festivity has been rapidly gaining popularity in our culture, and although I was initially among those so-called skeptics who surmised this was one more opportunity to remove God from the season, I soon came to realize it can easily be considered an extension of Thanksgiving.
Friends are such a valuable and necessary part of life, and the gift of friendship is a rich blessing to treasure and offer up gratitude for.
“Make new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other is gold.” For many years, a picture with these words hung on the wall, welcoming friends to our home. I’m not sure who authored this quote, but it’s long been a favorite.
Opportunities for friendship have expanded through the years, and for those of us in the blogging world, many of our friendships have grown out of deep sharing and connecting in ways we never imagined possible.
We’ve connected and drawn one another close…
Comforted one another in heartache
Encouraged one another’s dreams
Prayed for one another’s needs
Listened to one another’s insecurities
Shared one another’s burdens
Celebrated one another’s accomplishments
Affirmed one another’s words
And in the process, we’ve opened our hearts to each other in ways we never expected. Our lives are richer, our faith is stronger, and our love for one another is a profound blessing to be celebrated with gratitude.
So, it is fitting this week to set aside time to celebrate Friendsgiving right here at Fresh Market Friday.
You have been such a treasure here each week! As we enter into the 125th week of sharing our sacred spaces, let’s gather around the Fresh Market Friday table and take some time to bask in the joy of gratitude for each other, our words, our stories, our callings, and our legacies.
Let’s celebrate the ties that bind us to one another in faith and friendship!
