I’ve had a week of sweet treats. Sweet reminders of how much I am loved, from people I work with, blog with and do life with.
The fact that they came as a complete surprise makes it even sweeter for me because I adore surprises! And I always seem to be surprised when someone else chooses me or singles me out for something special.
Because I tend to be a workhorse, and it’s my nature to seek out ways to take care of everyone else, I never seem to realize how much I need these sweet treats or how nourishing and refreshing they are to my soul.
When they arrive, I hold on to them. I take pictures and add them to my daily counting of joy. And I make every attempt to savor them as long as possible. Tomorrow will come soon enough, where life will squeeze hard and overwhelm with the not-so-sweet surprises.
Life has a way of throwing us bitter, unpleasant surprises that slam into our day and be-line straight to our heart. Disrupting the rhythm we work so hard to maintain and stamping out every rest note so carefully tucked within cracks.
Making us feel lonely and alone
Luring us toward insecurity
Convincing us that we don’t matter.
Often, we need sweet reminders that we haven’t been forgotten or overlooked…that we are loved. Sometimes our distressing thoughts need caressed with the truth. Not just any truth…God’s truth. In our human frailty and proclivity for sinking into hopeless, we need the breath of God to speak unfailing love over our troubled heart.
We’re created to walk in victory, not trudge through failure and weakness. And all that busyness we jam into our thousands of moments is not meant to feed our soul.
The sweetest way to feed our soul is to savor the sweetness of God's Word. Share on XDo you need reminders of how much you are loved friend?
How God sings over you? How His song crescendos with unfathomable love, as He purposefully places rest notes across your soul and sets your heart back in rhythm once again? How this love is everlasting, ever faithful and ever full of compassion and mercy?
And how you never have to be surprised at being chosen or being singled out as special.
It’s OK to need reminders. And it’s even better to be surprised by sweet reminders…
That you are deeply and compassionately loved!
