“When I called to you, you answered me; you made me strong and brave.” Psalm 138:3
No life is untouched by the difficult, the unpleasant or the painful, and every living breath demands the fullness of brave be lived out in becoming who we were created to be.
Our stories bring hope and healing in the telling because most of us don’t consider ourselves brave. The battles for courage arrive with such force that fear often trumps brave…over and over again. As the years drift by, we find ourselves trudging through the same muck, bound by its chains and unable to experience true freedom.
But it was never meant to be this way.
When I began developing this series, I knew God was calling me to step into a place of brave I’ve never traveled fully before. Oh, believe me, I’ve tried, but because I haven’t believed it for myself, my approach has been ineffective and I’ve stopped short every time because of what I stood to lose.
I’ve allowed the threat of loss, the pain of a broken legacy and the shame of a shattered dream to suffocate me and silence me, even when I knew God was calling me to something more.
I’ve trembled under the weight of believing nothing will change, so why keep fighting…I’ll only make things worse so why enter into the battle again…I’m trapped, and there’s no way out. I’ve beaten myself up, torn myself down and isolated myself in the choice to turn away from brave.
Sometimes brave is just too difficult to consider.
It’s easier to sink into what is familiar, and comfortable…even if it’s painful.
When the lies proclaim that our situation will only worsen, we choose to isolate instead of surrounding ourselves with the support of sisterhood. When we stop short of the very thing our soul yearns to touch because of what we think we don’t deserve, we risk more than failure. When we convince ourselves nothing will change, we silence all hope standing in victory on the other side of brave.
Brave requires us to be willing to give up the one thing that is most important to us in exchange for becoming who we are meant to be. Share on XIt’s the kind of brave that bolsters firm confidence, not in ourselves but in a brave God. It convicts us to look above the waves of fear and anxiety to embrace the promise that God is in control of our every step, so we have no one to fear. And it breaks our hearts wide open to the truth – that the kind of brave we were created to live may cost everything…in order to gain everything.
We were never created to hide.
We were never created to retreat.
We were never created for defeat.
What fear stands in the way of your brave?
Is it fear of rejection, the unknown, shame?
What about your past, the worst case scenario or regret?
Or maybe it’s fear of loss, failure or success?
Perhaps you fear change, being unhappy or disappointed.
Whatever stops us from living brave stops us from becoming who we were created to be. Share on XSisters, we are called to walk the way of hope instead of the way of defeat. We must claim more than our title of “Daughter of the King.” We must step up and also claim our position.
And we must claim these together. As a sisterhood; a sisterhood of brave women who stand strong in the promises of who God is and who we are.
- We all are Made for Brave.
- We are made to live for something authentic and something brave.
- And in living brave, we silence the past, transform the future, and take a front row seat to God’s wild and uncontainable love!
So, I’m inviting you to join this Made for Brave Sisterhood, each Monday as we share our stories and allow God to bring hope and healing. Let’s commit to being authentic and brave, one step at a time, side by side, holding each other up and nudging each other forward. And let’s claim the victory waiting on the other side of brave; for ourselves and for each other.
Let’s celebrate our tears and our struggles as we peel away the layers of fear to reveal the beauty of brave.
Let’s risk everything that brave requires for everything that brave has to offer…
