When life takes an unfair turn, and we find ourselves in a place we never expected, our faith is often tested in ways we can never imagine. If you’ve found yourself in this very place, it helps knowing others have been there also. Join Becca today as she shares a bit of her story and how she found the courage to walk through many uncertainties and discovered a deeper faith along the way.
We quietly drank our coffee on Sunday morning, stress lingering like a cloud over my thoughts as we had just dumped even more of our personal money into our business. My husband turned toward me, “I have to tell you something.”
He took a long pause as I struggled to keep breathing, no clue what bomb was about to be dropped.
“Two of our employees just told me this weekend that our manager is using our employees, our equipment, our leads, our own customers, and our supplies to do cash jobs on the side for people while threatening and bribing them all to not tell us. I still have to look into it more but I want to let you know first that may be why our ‘growth’ has cost us so much taking this guy on.”
I sat in shocked silence as my mind raced with what that meant for us.
As we began to peel back the layers of what this meant, we soon found it to be massive amounts of funds squirreled away from our company. That week took a different turn for us than we were expecting, especially once we found out this married “Christian” man had used the money on prostituted women, girlfriends, and more.
Our lives were shattered financially.
It meant picking up the pieces of a business where so much had gone wrong—we endured over a year without a steady paycheck. At multiple times every account of ours was negative and we were unable to pay our bills.
It got so bad that the week before Christmas I left in the middle of church weeping that we might close our doors that week with debts threatening to overtake us. We didn’t know what else to do. We were completely exhausted, in a constant state of stress, facing continuous unease about our financial situation, and living in survival mode with a baby, a child with multiple medical appointments, and two homeschooled children.
This timeframe also coincided with my goal to read through the Bible in one year. So even in the midst of such unfair circumstances, my eyes were opening as I witnessed the beautiful story weaving God’s love in and through, both in the grandiose ways and the small details. I began to correlate that to our story and started taking mental notes of the ways that God was caring for us, because He clearly was!
God is present, even in the midst of unfair situations.
He was leading us and we knew it. We didn’t know how to fix our problem but knew we were being led. Share on XSeeking to keep the pages clean and unwrinkled, I handled my Bible with great care, until I was reminded of something: the Pentateuch repeatedly teaches God’s intent is for us to share our stories with the next generation; it was time to start taking notes in my Bible. I was learning to have a relationship with Him and to trust Him and I wanted to document it.
I started by writing down the year and a note next to specific verses to serve as a reminder to me and my children of what this verse meant at that time. I never want to forget.
He was leading us and we knew it. We didn’t know how to fix our problem but knew we were being led.
That journey required our faith to be built up through learning to trust in God. I thought I had faith but I merely claimed I did. I did not understand that the narrow way is like climbing a mountain. There is a lot of prep work that leads us to the point where we become a believer—our walk is our own and it’s a journey to get us to exactly where we are today.
The journey up the mountain is hard.
It can be wrought with loneliness, steep inclines that we feel are too tough to keep trudging on, weak knees giving out at times as we fall to the ground, stumbling downward on some rocks, and evading strength as we persevere to keep putting one foot in front of the other to just. keep. going.
The path up the mountain offers many side paths leading to sites unseen. We have the option to keep looking and heading Heavenward through everything or to veer off. God is leading us and gifting us the opportunity to build our trust and establish our faith through every trial we encounter.
The choice is yours to make in every situation and I pray you seek the Lord during those times so you will continue Heavenward.

Sisters, we are called to walk the way of hope instead of the way of defeat. We must claim more than our title of “Daughter of the King.” We must step up and also claim our position.
And we must claim these together. As a sisterhood; a sisterhood of brave women who stand strong in the promises of who God is and who we are.
- We all are Made for Brave.
- We are made to live for something authentic and brave.
- In living brave, we silence the past, transform the future, and take a front row seat to God’s wild and uncontainable love!
So, I’m inviting you to join this Made for Brave Sisterhood, each Monday as we share our stories and allow God to bring hope and healing. Let’s commit to being authentic and brave, one step at a time, side by side, holding each other up and nudging each other toward our true selves. And let’s claim the victory waiting on the other side of brave; for ourselves and our sisterhood.
Let’s celebrate our tears and our struggles as we peel away the layers of fear to reveal the beauty of brave.
Let’s risk everything that brave requires for everything that brave has to offer…
