I’ve never been one to waste. I would rather throw a mildewed shower liner in the wash machine with a little bleach than purchase a new one. And recycling gift boxes and bags – guilty! If I can clean it or repaint it or repair it, I’m all in. Now, before you label me a hoarder, I’m not talking about holding on to things for the sake of holding on to them.
I’m talking about not wasting what I have, and often that means finding ways to breathe new life into something that still has a purpose. Sometimes breathing new life into something is as simple as re-framing or re-arranging or re-functioning.
A vibrant Mother’s Day bouquet doesn’t get thrown away when the prominent flowers wilt. Instead accent blooms meant to splash color become the focal point of a sweet oasis for my office. It’s not so much about being frugal as it is about being thankful.
Tuning our heart to thankful adds value, not only to our possessions but also to our experiences and our journey. Our possessions become gifts. Our experiences become treasures. Our journey becomes a legacy.
I can recall many times in my life when my eyes focused on getting to where I wanted to be and I failed to fully rest content in where I was. Thinking the one thing I was doing didn’t count for anything hindered me from understanding its value and overall impact to my future.
Have you experienced the same “near sightedness?” Do you have difficulty focusing on the “big picture?” Doubting choices and paths and getting bogged down in comparing? Blinded by the lie of insignificance?
My friend, there is no part of our journey that is wasted on our story.
The truth is that God is always at work, breathing new life into that which still has purpose…US. He’s continually re-framing, re-arranging and re-functioning in every area of our life. And wasting any part of our journey simply doesn’t happen.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Share on XThe forks in the road, the seemingly insignificant choices and connections. Every part of our story has harmony and balance in our overall purpose and destination. Some parts are accents, some are more proportionate than others, and still others offer balance and rhythm. And all become a unified composition when surrendered to and shaped by our Creator.
We don't have to know the future when we trust in the One who holds our future. Share on XWhen we can truly embrace the concept that God has our good and his good pleasure in mind, we can relax in wherever we are called to “Be” and in whatever we are called to “Do.” We can offer it all, free of regret, doubt and second guessing…and full of hope!
