If you’ve been a part of the Fresh Market Friday Link-up community for any amount of time, you know I’m passionate about living with intention and building a legacy that inspires and brings hope. I just think it makes life so much more worthwhile and opens us up to amazing blessings we might not experience apart from both.
That’s why I want to share something with you that I wholeheartedly believe in and have witnessed the fruit of in my own life for many years. Let me start by going back in time a few years when I was a new wife, a new mom and a pastor’s wife….
All that sounds wonderful doesn’t it? Well, it was, but it was also the beginning of the most difficult journey of my entire life. One that would last many years. It was the time I came face to face with some very deep and destructive lies planted throughout a dysfunctional childhood which grew wild in my heart without me even knowing they were there.
Lies about who I was and wasn’t. Lies declaring my worthlessness. Lies which left me unable to see any hope of not repeating the past.
Have you been there? Are you there now?
The enemy of our soul never misses an opportunity to shoot these arrows into our heart at any age. Leaving us huddled in a hopeless, crumbled mess is his ultimate goal. But thankfully it doesn’t end there.
The Lover of our Soul never misses an opportunity to draw us back into the light. Share on XHis desire is to speak truth into our hearts. The kind of truth that battles the lies and silences them over and over again. And the kind of truth that firmly establishes our God-given identity once and for all.
So when I was given the opportunity to be a part of Holly Gerth’s launch team for her new devotional, Do You Know You’re Already Amazing?, I was thrilled. Because this devotional speaks to the heart of what I’ve spent a lifetime fiercely pursuing….Truth.
Truth about who God is and who He created us to be.
Truth spoken over us before our first heartbeat deep within our mother’s womb.
Truth that has the power to break the tightest chains and set us free.
I’m a huge fan of Holly’s books, and this is one of my favorites because it identifies 30 of the most prominent lies women revealed they have believed, whether from childhood or adulthood. Maybe your familiar with some of them; I know I am.
I don’t belong.
I’m invisible.
God is not always good to me.
God has forgotten about me.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, and Holly doesn’t leave us there.
She gives us true-to-life scenarios showing how these lies first take root. She shows us how we are not alone in believing their destructive message by reminding us of how these very same lies slipped into the hearts of women in the Bible long before we were born.
And then she tenderly points us to the truth of scripture and the hope of God for each and every one of us. So we will be able to identify when the lie took root, learn the truth and use that truth to battle and defeat the lie.
I remember many lonely years when I thought I was in this battle alone, and that in itself was yet another lie. We are never meant to walk this life alone. Holly has such a way of making us all feel like she’s sitting right next to us, not judging or shaming, but saying, “Yes, I’ve been there too” and “Let’s do this together.”
Let’s stand together, let’s do battle together, and let’s walk the road of hope, with a God who loves us and declares to each and every one of us…
